Academic Scholarships

Rewarding excellence

Haileybury recognises that all pupils have particular strengths and aptitudes which require nurture and support; our Academic Scholars are those with strong intellectual abilities and a particularly impressive work ethic. Academic Scholarships can be offered at 11+,13+ and 16+ entry.

What we offer

Academic Scholars will be involved in curricular and co-curricular activities at the school which cater for their exceptional ability and work ethic.

Academic scholars receive a fee remission and the amount is at the discretion of the Master. All scholars are also offered the opportunity to attend courses and workshops which stretch the most able.

The Deputy Head (Academic) with the support of the Head of Lower School, the Head of Sixth Form, HMs and Tutors oversee the development of Academic Scholars.

Current enrichment for Scholars includes:

  • Trips off-site e.g. Museum Exhibitions, Galleries, the Royal Opera House and University visits
  • Lectures on or off-site from experts in their respective field
  • Participation in nationally recognised competitions such as Academic Olympiads, University essay competitions, Debating Competitions and Poetry by Heart
  • Use of on-line resources such as Khan Academy, OU Short Courses and FutureLearn
  • Additional qualifications: Scholars are expected to take an extra or early I/GCSE

What we are looking for

The qualities we seek from potential Academic Scholars are many and varied but will typically embrace the Haileybury ethos of inquisitiveness, resourcefulness and generosity of spirit.

We will identify these through our interview, tests and through communication with your child’s current school.

Responsibility of Scholars

Haileybury's Academic Scholars are expected to be the College's leading ambassadors, challenging themselves and their peers always to be better.

The requirements for the award of Academic Scholarships vary depending on the age of the candidate.
