We want our school to continue to be a place where pupils can succeed and pursue their talent, wherever that talent lies. We would not be able to achieve this goal without contributions from our wider family and we are enormously grateful to all our supporters.
Annual Appeal – Hockey Pitch Upgrade
This year’s Annual Appeal will support the much-needed upgrade of our Theobald Hockey pitch and associated areas and equipment. Hockey at Haileybury is one of the School’s greatest sports, with a long-established history. Our pupils represent us at competitions across the county, with much success and with several teams now undefeated.
In March 2020, Haileybury’s U18 girls won the National Schools’ crown at the Olympic Park and, even after matches were postponed in the 20/21 season due to covid, we have continued to dominate fixtures this 21/22 season. This summer we also saw two Haileybury pupils represent England in the U18 and U16 national teams.
Haileybury now has more girls and boys playing hockey than ever before – 18 girls teams and 10 boys teams – ensuring our depth of provision is unmatched in the South-East. An experienced coaching staff of five national league players led by Rob Schilling, Director of Hockey, ensures that top-level training is provided, and fixtures are played every weekend in the Autumn and Easter terms.
With our provision of outstanding coaching and with pupil participation at an all-time high, we now need the facilities to match in order to maintain our position as a leading hockey school. We have identified the need to refurbish our Theobald astro pitch to which the School has committed £550,000 of its own funds to replace the astro turf underlay and carpet.
However, there is still much more that needs to be done. Whilst we are able to address one of the most pressing concerns regarding the hockey pitch upgrade, we need to secure a further £340,000 for much-needed areas and equipment such as:
-4 large goals at £6,000 each
-18 small goals at £600 each
-2 team shelters at £4,000 each
-Changing and storage areas at £25,000
-Analytics cameras, scoreboards and other equipment at £25,000
-A new hosting and meeting space at a cost of £75,000
-Tiered spectator seating and covering at £170,000

Widening Access to Haileybury Fund
We have a passionate wish to support talented pupils or those in significant pastoral need, whose parents could not otherwise afford the fees, to benefit from an education at Haileybury. We offer bursaries because we believe that the academic, sporting and co-curricular opportunities offered at Haileybury can have a transformative impact on a child’s life, and we know that the pupils who receive bursaries thrive within the Haileybury family. The benefits are important to the whole school: diversity within the classroom has a positive impact on all pupils’ learning and development. During the 2020/21 academic year we awarded 44 bursary awards. This year we have increased this to 51 awards and with your support we can continue to provide further bursary provision to children that would benefit and excel with access to a Haileybury education.
Public benefit remains a top priority, and we are particularly proud of our sole academy sponsorship of Haileybury Turnford. Haileybury, through the creation of the Haileybury Academy Trust, takes strategic responsibility for the direction of the school and all aspects of its performance. The aim of the sponsorship is to support rapid and sustained school improvement, which has incorporated support across governance, finance, teaching, co-curricular activities, careers, support staff services and marketing. Each year, Haileybury, supports Haileybury Turnford with £200,000, which demonstrates our commitment as sole sponsor of the School.
It is our goal to build the Widening Access Fund, so that we can not only maintain but grow our widening access work for the benefit of many generations of pupils to come.
