Mathematics
At GCSE, the syllabus aims to enable pupils to develop their mathematical knowledge and skills. They will learn to apply Mathematics in everyday situations and develop an understanding of the part that Mathematics plays in the world around them. They will be encouraged to apply their mathematical skills in other areas of the curriculum.
The mathematics course provides an excellent foundation for further study of mathematics at A level and in the IB Diploma. Pupils who have covered the additional content will have a foundation to study further mathematics as well as Higher Level courses in the IB Diploma.
The course will expose pupils to a variety of numerical, algebraic and problem solving skills that will be transferable to many disciplines both in the Sixth Form and beyond.
Mathematics is compulsory at GCSE level for all pupils. Mathematics and Further mathematics are offered as A level courses. Mathematics analysis and approaches, and mathematics applications and interpretation are available as International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.
