Lower School Extra-Curricular Sport

There is a huge choice of different sports available to both boys and girls. In the Autumn term, boys play football and hockey while girls concentrate on hockey, netball and lacrosse, taking these options into the Spring term. Rugby is the main sport for boys in the Easter term, followed by cricket in the summer, and athletics, rounders and tennis for the girls.

Boys and girls have separate PE classes although everyone follows the All Star programme, which tracks pupils' progression through various competitions. Throughout the year, there are various cups, shields, medals and certificates to be won as part of the programme. Activities like badminton, gymnastics, swimming, athletics, tennis and health-related fitness are included in PE lessons.

Lower School pupils achieve spectacular county honours. Some of the latest Haileybury pupils to be chosen at this level include:

* James Brooking, Christian Scales, Henry Wombwell, Tom Douglas and Jack Dunne, who were all chosen for the Under 13 Hertfordshire County Junior Assessment Centre hockey trials

* Thomas Grint, Mayowa Balogun, Christian Scales and Callum Scutt, who were selected to represent the Under 13 Herts and Essex ISFA Football team in the national tournament to take place between 29 and 31 March 2009, and

* Rhiannon Massey has been awarded a place in the Topper National Intermediate British National sailing squad for 2008/9. Her brother, William, is in the RYA Topper East Zone squad.

In addition, Lower School girls performed fantastically at the last Under 13 Belmont Festival, winning every one of their matches and not conceding a goal all day. In the meantime, the Lower School A football team reached the last 16 of the Independent Schools Football Association Under 13 Cup in 2008.

"Many LS pupils have achieved county and national honours."
