All lessons in the Lower School are taught by Main School subject specialists, so the standards of learning and teaching are high. Teachers have high expectations of their Lower School pupils and look to stretch them wherever possible.
Most subjects are taught to mixed ability groups. We do, however, set for French, Latin, Spanish and Maths. Class sizes range from a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 20 and there are six lessons in the day, except on Wednesdays, when pupils have a games afternoon. There is no Saturday school but pupils are expected to be available to play matches.
Pupils get an hour of prep every night, usually consisting of two subjects - 30 minutes on each subject. There are about two hours of prep to do over the weekend, but this includes Friday night.
The Lower School curriculum is as follows:
We have a 10-day (two-weekly) timetable consisting of 60 periods of 55 minutes each. All pupils are issued with a timetable which they fill in with their form tutor on the first day of the school year.
