The Haileybury Archives
Archivist: Toby Parker
The Archives Office is situated in Clock House in the Quad which was created by William Wilkins in 1806 and is named THE STEPHEN AUSTIN ROOMS after the Hertford Printer who contributed so much at the time of the school's creation in 1862.
Our archives contain a huge variety of Haileybury artefacts - sporting medals, House caps from before 1934 and House ties since, old prints, caricatures of staff, House and School records and a mass of photographs from as early as 1862. There are ledgers, minutes of Council and other meetings and programmes of musical events and drama. We also hold collections of letters which give intriguing historical insights into the events of the time and how boarding school life used to be.
Haileybury's previous archivist, Andrew Hambling, launched a new book recently to mark the bicentenary of the foundation of the East India College. Entitled The East India College at Haileybury - 1806-1857, this fascinating account contains dozens of photos, drawings and other illustrations from the Haileybury Archives and elsewhere.
Anyone who would like to order a copy (at £10 per copy plus £2 for p&p) should write to The Haileybury Archives or The Haileybury Society, Haileybury, Hertford, SG13 7NU.
