Netball

Netball at Haileybury is a highly-attended team sport throughout all year groups.

At Haileybury, netball is central to the female sports for girls. Played by all year groups, with an active and varied programme of fixtures, tournaments and tours, it is passionately supported by pupils in each girls House. Our netballers not only know the value of inclusion, team-spirit and comradery, but are also surrounded by a culture of sporting finesse, passion and healthy competition. The profile of the sport has developed over the last couple of years, with mixed netball being a popular activity, attended by both pupils and staff.

Team opportunities for all

Our co-curricular programme ensures that we can play top opposition from within the County, where the sport is very popular. At Lower School, every girl will gain experience representing the school netball teams; we field three U12 teams, three U13 teams and one mixed U12/U13 team at fixtures. Currently, over 120 girls from Removes to Sixth Form combine regularly to play netball. Where our opposition allows we can field A, B and C teams at both U14 and U15. We combine our Fifths and Sixth form together from which we form the elite 1st VII squad; our 2nd VII, 3rd VII and 4th VII play in fixtures with other schools who can field such numbers. Those girls not selected for teams train as a Development Squad integrated within the whole Senior set up. This is highly beneficial as we are then able to feed into the senior teams when necessary for fixtures.

Expert Coaching

Dani McFarlane is Haileybury’s first Director of Netball with the mandate to develop the netball programme and improve competitive netball fixtures across all age groups. Dani is a Level 2 coach, level 3 personal trainer and a former England player. She currently still plays for Saracens Mavericks in the Vitality Netball Superleague and Academy in the Premier 1 League. Dani is passionate about sport at grass roots level and the development of young and aspiring athletes.

High Performance Programme

The High Performance Programme gives athletes the opportunity to work with specialists in their chosen sport. It aims to maximise athletes’ potential and achieve personal sporting targets. This includes weekly one to one and group sessions with the Director of Netball and also weekly Strength and Conditioning sessions. Athletes are expected to be punctual, have a positive and champion minded work ethic and be ready to learn.

Tours

Tours now form a key part of the netball year and are run every 2-3 years. They offer our pupils invaluable experience from back to back matches, quick and beneficial recovery methods and team bonding.

Facilities – indoor and outdoor

Haileybury is blessed with excellent netball facilities including two indoor netball courts situated in our well-equipped Haileybury Sports Centre. Our LED electronic scoreboard is perfect for our supporters to easily view the score, time and quarter during the matches. Our outdoor courts, situated on Hailey Lane and refurbished summer 2019, are all full size, offering pupils the ability to play on six different playing courts with a generous run off.
