POST SECOND WORLD WAR CAMPAIGNS

It was twenty three years after the end of World War 2 before there was respite for the British Army and they did not lose a man in action. One year later came the Northern Ireland "Troubles" and conflict continued somewhere in the World. In many of these conflicts former pupils played key roles & in some cases lost their lives. 

Haileybury continued to have a significant influence on the RAF in these years. Above is a picture taken in 1948. From left to right

Air Marshall Sir A. P. M Sanders KBE, CB (AOC British Forces Occupation)

The Prime Minister Clement Attlee KG OM CH PC

Air Vice Marshall G. A. H. Pidcock CB, CBE ( DG Armament, Air Ministry)

Air Chief Marshall Sir J. C. Slessor GCB, KCB, DSO, MC (Commandant Imperial Defence College)

Group Captain H. M. Day DSO, OBE, AM (OC RAF Netheravon ) Famous POW escaper. The Albert Medal was subsequently changed to the George Cross.

Air Marshall Sir W. F, Dickson KBE, CB, DSO, AFC (AOC RAF Middle East) (later Marshall of the RAF)

Other distinguished Old boys, who had succeeded in the RAF were   Air Chief Marshall Sir  Trafford Leigh-Mallory KCB, DSO (killed 1944) & Air Chief Marshall Sir Robert Brooke -Popham  GCVO, KCB, DSO CMG, AFC
