SIGNIFICANT DATES INVOLVING OLD BOYS

 

14 March      The first 22,000lb  Grand Slam bomb dropped on Bielefeld viaduct in Germany.

24 March        Operation Varsity, the crossing of the Rhine begins. The operation, involving 1,500 aircraft and 1,300 gliders was successful 

7 May                VE Day unconditional surrender signed by Germans

15 August        VJ Day. The Second World War finally ends with Japans unconditional surrender

 

 

CASUALTIES

HAILEYBURY                            45 KILLED

HAILEYBURY STAFF                    1 KILLED

ISC                                                26 KILLED

8 seamen were lost including the Third Sea Lord,.Two Royal Marine Commandos & an Army Commando were lost.

21 Airmen were lost in this final year.
