24 March Operation Varsity, the crossing of the Rhine begins. The operation, involving 1,500 aircraft and 1,300 gliders was successful
7 May VE Day unconditional surrender signed by Germans
15 August VJ Day. The Second World War finally ends with Japans unconditional surrender

8 seamen were lost including the Third Sea Lord,.Two Royal Marine Commandos & an Army Commando were lost.

21 Airmen were lost in this final year.
