DEDICATED TO THE FORMER PUPILS & STAFF OF
HAILEYBURY,
The UNITED SERVICE COLLEGE
The IMPERIAL SERVICE COLLEGE,
& The HONOURABLE EAST INDIA COLLEGE
WHO LOST THEIR LIVES
IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY
OR DIED AS A RESULT OF ENEMY ACTION
"We can truly say that the whole circuit of the earth is girdled with the graves of our dead . . . and, in the course of my pilgrimage, I have many times asked myself whether there can be more potent advocates of peace upon earth through the years to come, than this massed multitude of silent witnesses to the desolation of war."
Seventeen former pupils were awarded
the Victoria Cross "FOR VALOUR"
and three more the George Cross,
and yet another three the Albert Medal, which preceded it.

Also, one VC recipient became a master at Haileybury.

Just names on the cloister wall,
Young men from long ago.
These pages are dedicated
To those 740 Old Boys, who died in that Great War to end all others,
and to the 518, who died just twenty years later in its sequel;
To the 55 , who fell in the Boer War
and the 122,who fell in the other conflicts of the School's first century;
also to those unlisted, who died, and to those,
who returned to shortened lives from wounds and gassing.
In the first hundred years of these colleges' existence
9% of the pupils lost their lives and have their names recorded here.
Let us not forget them
Nor should we forget those of an earlier generation, who attended the Honourable East India College, "Old Haileybury" between 1807 and 1857. 42 of them are known to have lost their lives in the Service of Our Country.
