Haileybury Youth Trust in Uganda: helping Africa rebuild itself
Haileybury Youth Trust (HYT) has existed since 1890 to alleviate poverty, first in London's East End, and since 2006, in Uganda.
With Haileyburians and Ugandans working hand in hand, lives are transformed through the sustainable construction of water tanks, classrooms and homes, while training programmes are also delivered, giving young Ugandans skills and opportunities for employment.
HYT gives Ugandans a hand up, not a hand out!
A hundred years ago, Haileybury's most famous son, Clement Attlee, worked full-time for the Haileybury Guild (HYT's original name). This work was, he later said, "to alter the whole course of my life".
A century later, Haileyburians are still giving their youthful energy, on the ground, people to people, to improve the lives of other human beings who have been denied the opportunities we enjoy here.
The HYT website gives a fuller picture of the charity's life and work in Uganda, including the remarkable, carbon-saving technology we use. Please have a look!
