I believe it will be an exciting year with new girls joining us in the Removes and the Lower Sixth but also with 3 new tutors, a new resident tutor, a new Assistant Housemistress and a new Housemistress! The school year ahead will throw new challenges to all of us but I am confident that we will meet them as a united and caring house, looking out for each other and supporting one another.
In the movie Forrest Gump, Forrest says: "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get". Not everything will always work out well but you will never know unless you try. Hailey House girls are known for their involvement in all areas of school life and I, of course, wish this tradition, established by Mrs George and previous years of Hailey House girls, to continue. Therefore I look forward to seeing success in sport, the performing arts, debating, inter-house competitions, Chapel, CCF, DoE - in short, all extra-curricular activities.
Nonetheless, while I wish every Hailey House girl to take the fullest advantage of all the opportunities at Haileybury, everybody must remember that their first priority is to complete their academic work to the very best of their abilities. This does not mean I expect every girl to gain A grades but I do expect everyone to try their hardest, to be organised with their work and to approach their studies in a positive frame of mind.
I am looking forward to this year with great excitement and enthusiasm as I hope you all are.
Bonne chance à toutes!

The history of Haileybury as an educational establishment began on 23rd October 1805 when the Honourable East India Company bought Hailey Bury House, later to be renamed Hailey House, at auction. The original building dates from 1702. Haileybury opened as a school in September 1862 and Hailey was first used for the accommodation of students in 1865 as a preparatory school for the Master and 55 pupils. Part of the house was rebuilt in 1878 when Hailey became a full College House and the Hailey Crest was taken from that family of the Rev. H Walford who was the housemaster from 1865 to 1883. With Haileybury becoming a fully co-educational school, Hailey was converted to a Girls House in September 2002.
Hello, I'm Ines, your new Head of House. I'm from Germany and joined Haileybury last September in Lower Sixth. Therefore, I remember very well how it feels to be new to a school and to be away from home. However, Hailey House quickly became a second home for me and I'm sure it will be one for you as well! Its warm and homely atmosphere makes it easy to settle down and to make new friends quickly. It never gets boring in Hailey House but at the same time it's also a place where you can come to rest after a busy school day.
Hailey has a fairly good history at winning House events, especially sport! I hope that together we will maintain this competitive streak whilst also having those who are not involved in the teams keeping up the support which Hailey is known to have.
I'm currently taking the IB Diploma, studying English, German, Spanish, Biology, Economics and Maths. Whether you need help with your work, have a problem or just want somebody to talk to, my room is on the top floor and you're always welcome to come and visit me.
I hope you will have an amazing time in Hailey House and I'm looking forward to having a great year together with you!
Lots of Love, Ines x
Hailey House colours are pale pink and navy blue, a feminisation of what the boys wore - cerise and navy.
We hold the junior trophy for every girls' House sport and have done for the last three years. We hold the House athletics trophy and junior swimming trophy and this year missed the overall swimming trophy (for the first time in three years) by one point.
We have great debaters and hold the junior title and have been finalists in the seniors since the competition's beginnings.
We spend lots of time at the theatre and this year have seen Wicked and Lord of the Rings on stage.
