PHSE is taken to mean "Personal, Health and Social Education". The purposes of the programme at Haileybury are:
- To support and develop the self-esteem of all pupils
- To encourage care and respect and responsibility towards others
- To provide a programme which imparts knowledge, develops skills and explores values regarding the physical, sexual, moral, social and vocational self
- To develop skills for building personal relationships
- To recognise the worth of pupils' own and others' achievements
- To enable pupils to take increasing responsibility for their own learning and behaviour
Almost everything of life at Haileybury - be it formal lessons, discussing a report with your tutor, rehearsing a play, relaxation time in-house or on the sports fields - will inevitably involve the development of a pupil's moral, social and personal sensibilities. These channels, however, do not always provide sufficient room for more in-depth discussion and development of the understanding of PHSE issues.
PHSE at Haileybury is further enhanced by a programme of visiting speakers on a variety of topics. Parents are also welcome to many of these lectures outlined within the Lecture Programme.
