Haileybury supports local, national and international charities, believing that pupils of all ages should take the opportunity to create, administrate and lead fund-raising projects to enhance their awareness of those less fortunate and to develop further those skills that are so essential for life beyond Haileybury. Last year (2008-09), Haileybury raised a total of £24,000 for the school’s three nominated charities, including £2,000 for the Herts Air Ambulance.
Haileybury pupils and staff are again supporting three charities this year (2009-10) - The Hertfordshire Children's Fund, which provides small grants to meet immediate needs in deprived areas of the county; The Alzheimer’s Society, which works with sufferers and carers, and funds research into this condition; and Sightsavers, which helps those with curable blindness around the world.
The Hertfordshire Children’s Fund is a small, volunteer-led charitable fund that aims to help vulnerable children aged 0 – 18 years and their families living in Hertfordshire. See the Fund's website for more information.
The Alzheimer's Society is a membership organisation, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many of its 25,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform their work. See http://www.alzheimers.org.uk for more information.
Sightsavers is an international charity which works with partners to eliminate avoidable blindness and to promote equality of opportunity for disabled people in the developing world. See http://www.sightsavers.org/default.html for more information.
